WHAT IF BIGGIE DIDN’T DIE?

“If Biggie never passed away Jay-z would not be where he is today?” The statement many people say when being upset with modern day rap and talking about the top five emcees in hip hop history. The main question that lingers in the air has been If biggie didn’t die would jay z be jay z? If you open the hip-hop history books and scale the climate of hip-hop in the mid 90’s most of the biggest rappers were coming out of New York. The star player was known to be none other than The Notorious BIG aka Biggie Smalls. Jay-Z was on the rise, but biggie was the star player at bad boy records lead by Sean “Puff daddy” Combs. At the height of his career biggie was murdered and a very promising career was cut short.

Jay z was what you would call mid-tier among the other artist in the rap game. Biggie claimed the east coast as the top artist and Tupac Shakur had the west coast locked. With the unfortunate death of biggie the game had a void that needed to be filled. “Who would be the next up?” Without actually claiming the spot Jay z became the top rapper from the streets of New York. At this point he surpassed his underdog status and stepped to the forefront of rap game. What do you think the verdict is.
